If it seems to be stuck they may have used silicone and just try to start prying carefully on one corner working your way to the other side. Mine was a ***** to come down.

I may have a set of flappers from when I removed mine. If you're interested, I'll check. Only ran them for a few hours, and then put mufflers on, so they're good as new. (Innovation 600's/Stellings = l-o-u-d.) Half price if you want them.
I wouldn't dare back up a 382 without them.

I do know that NJ has some sound ordinances, but whether or not they really enforce them. I believe it's 90 db's according to the NJ boating safety course book. I do know that other areas really enforce it.
I will probably take the box off at some point, curiousity will get the best of me. Right now is not the best of time. I did know a guy with a 99 353 who removed his and blew an engine due to water intrusion. Some say you need to replace the internal flappers in additional to adding the external ones.
Do a search on the Formula thread for silent thunder box removal. There are quite a few step by step threads with pictures.

Yes, I would be interested in your flappers (that just doesn't sound right does it?). Let me know if you have them and how much you want for them. What do you think about the post above about the 353 and his water intrusion problem after removing the box? You can e-mail me @ [email protected]. Thanks....

I believe the 353 story. I've backed my 382 up and had waves wash up ONTO the sunpad before...not normal, but it has happened. Water very easily could be forced back up the exhaust under those copnditions......besides, once in the water the exhaust tips are nearly impossible to see and those external rubber flappers aren't noticable.

I run both internal and flaps on mine after engine damage. Corsa makes internal with rubber-like coating to quiet noise of metal to metal thats tuff! I have run engine dry with no damage to internal flaps. Wish the motor had been that tuff.

I'm not trying to scare you from not doing it, it's just a possibility, something to consider. Yes he did have the external flappers on, it happened as he was coming off plane I believe. I know in my 292 if I come off to quickly then water splashes up on the the sunpad. Just need to remember to give it a little punch as your coming off plane to prevent that from happening.
If you have captains call, I would simple switch it on when coming off plane and while backing up. That could act as an internal flapper I guess. That should aid as another barrier from any water getting back into the engine. That idea just came to me.

Were you able to find those flappers?
