What RPM at WOT. 382 525's
Ran the new 382 all weekend, and just didn't feel like it was getting full rpm's. 2004 382 525's ,a/c genset, full fuel, 4 blade stock bravos. Trimmed to about 5,no tabs,4900???. Right around 70-71mph. What puzzled me was that I was running side by side with a buddy with the exact same set-up(year, size, motors, and options) with the exception of extension boxes and 5 blades. Side by side same water/wind,same speed, and he was spinning 5300. ?????????????

Scanned both motors. no codes, other than a steering code, and a fuel level code. This is my first boat with 525s,one thing I did notice, both motors sound like they are breaking up when getting on plane easily.Between 1200-2500,then smooth out after 2800. If I am more aggressive with the holeshot (which I don't like to do) they seem fine. Is this just a common thing with these motors,or could this be causing my loss of RPM's?

Bondo10.... you have not said what pitch? in any case there is going to be a difference between the 5 blade and 4 blade .....AND the boxes ....sounds like you might need less pitch or at a min a tweak on your props ...not sure about the missing .....those motors should run Flawless .....
what are your thoughts on comparing your 3382 to your 312?

Sorry. The 4 blades are 30's. I understand that the boxes and different props will give different results. My question is the rpm's. 4900 just doesn't seem right for wide open throttle. I would think my boat with 4 blades should have more rpm's than my buddy's 5's. I also have a set of labbed 5 blade maximus props that came with the boat. Have not tried them yet.I wanted to get some seat time with the 4's before changing them. As far as the switch from the 312 to the 382, I couldn't be happier. Although the 312 was an awesome boat, the 382 is a tank in the snotty stuff.

I too went from a 312 to a 382. The difference was AWESOME. Not as nimble, but the ride quality was HUGE!
Those 30's might be a little big, or need a little work. Id try to borrow some 28's, or try your 5 blades, if they are the correct pitch you'll love them. James is correct in that 5 blades will be 5 mph faster than 4's AT CRUISE assuming the props are proper for the boat (that they reach the same WOT rpm). I ran 32P Bravos or 28P 15 5/8 labbed Maximus on my 382 (540's) and the 5 blades performed much better all around except WOT they were a little slower (1-2 mph).
BTW: 540 C.I motors, 630hp, 700tq, no boxes. all test done the same day. (90+ degrees, very high humidity, flat water, heavy fuel/gear)
30 labbed Bravos 44 at 3,500 and 86 at 5,600
32 labbed Bravos 49 at 3,500 and 83 at 5,200
28 labbed Maximus 55 at 3,500 and 83 at 5,300 (oversized props)

I tried to over trim it,gained maybe 100 rpm's,but lost 4 mph. I went for a shake down ride in march.I did not run at WOT because I had not changed oil or drive lube yet,so I did not want to push it. When I dropped it to be serviced, the tech said the port drive trim pistons were mounted incorrectly. There are wedges or spacers where they mount to the drive. Are the drives suppose to be offset by these "wedges".
