Repower 311-SR1 1989
A few weeks ago I posted a threat about frost damage of both 454 MAG Mark IV motors. So they need to be repaired or replaced, most probably covered by insurance but not finalized yet. I am in contact with Teague for a new rotating assembly which would take my existing components.
For you guys it seems kind of silly, but over here everything related to US V8 enigines is rare and expensive, especially knowledge.
Another question is, if I would like to go for a pair of ready drop in motors, which types will fit without rework?
Would this boat take 454 or 502 Mag gen V engines?
I prefer a pair of 502 mag motors but I hear so many different stories in my area about the (im)possibilities.
I am sure many of you know the details.
Thanks for your input

Just completed a similar project on my 89 311, pulled my 330s and replaced with a set of Gen V 502 mag motors. Used all my stock accys and added electric fuel pumps. I went for a carb setup which is easier for me. I upgraded to Gil exhaust, but my stock exhaust would have worked.

just about any BBC should work ...454 up to 525 EFI ....are you looking for big HP ? 502MPI's or 496's might be a good choice .... Are you saying your checking into "long" Block Assemblies from Teague? that would be block and all internals including heads ...."short" block would not include heads .....m

That's why for me 502 MAG MPI/carb 415hp would be preferrable.
In this situation I am going to spend quite some money (either insurance or myself) and it would give at least a better feeling if there is also a performance improvement and not to stick with the 2 x 365hp although the boat was running great with those engines.
I have been checking into short-block assemblies from Teague. Disadvantage is that it will still be 2 x 365hp but it might be the best way if insurance is not covering the costs.
I have been checking here at local dealers, but they seem so incredible expensive to me. The offer a CBB 385hp carb for 9000,- euro, that is around $ 11.000,- US.
And they can't tell me any spec. Are those motors als MAG motors, they don't have a clue.
So a good option for me would be a pair of fresh 502 MAG MPI taketouts. I have a business contact in Ford Meyrs who can take care of shipment.
Any advise is welcome.

You won't believe the trouble you have in the Netherlands when is comming down to these kind of things.
What speed does your boat see with this setup?

Paul,
I have a pair of turn key Hp 500's Gen IV blocks, low hours ( less than 100) on freshen up
$ 13,000.00 USD for the pair. These are spare for my 382, currently using SC 600's in the boat
I can send pics & specs if you are interested. Engines are loacted in Virginia near Wasington DC

James - you say Gen IV blocks; how complete are they? Everything included, heads, carbs, etc?

Paul, you are correct that a take out is the best way to go because of all the accessories and bolt on stuff. I just put 2002 500 HP
EFI engines in my 89 311 with no issues. The mounts, exhaust (Stainless Marine for me) and everything else works. I think the Bravos can take 500 hp if you drive it well and don't try to do waterski starts. The problem with getting later generation long or short blocks is that some of your accessories may not match up, and things like the valve covers will not fit.
