Default Formula's Manufactured With a "Hook"

I have noticed (along with "Cuda") that both of our boats have almost the same "hook" in them. Also I understand that many manufactures made them this way from the factory. Was Formula one of these? I would be intersted to hear from any body with a mid 80's to early 90's Formula to check in with your findings on your boat. Also does anyone know who to contact at Formula to find out if this is the case? Seems like everytime I call them I just get the same routine....Thats a while a go....We really don't have any info on your boat...Sorry........Boilerdaddy are you out there!
Everyone let me and "Cuda" know about your findings.....

I checked my 1989 223LS yesterday and notice that it too has a hook in it. I think the hull design between a F3LS and a 223LS is very similiar.

I've got an 89 272 and between the chine and the first strake there is a hook built in. I'd guess it starts about 12" forward of the transom and drops about an inch. I have read about bad results when removing it, like excessive porpoising.

My 93-252SS also had a hook, but it was not a major hoop like 1" !

My '97 312 Fastec also has a hook designed in.
Maybe this is designed in to help planing & prevent porpoise?

It doesn't really seem to adversly effect the 312 but it did the 252SS (at 75mph !).

Hi All,

I have a 1984 F3LS and I cannot see any hook!

Either I am looking in the wrong spot, (new to this performance boating) or I do not have one.

I will say that over trimmed this boat porpises quite a bit. It all looks orginal as well so I don't think it has been removed.

Maybe they started putting them on after 1984

Is this hook good or bad? I am interested in it as well considering the new power going in.

Thanks

Lotsa boats, depending on length/beam ratios, had "hooks" (us Hoosiers call 'em "wedges") between the chines and first strake. As you guess, it helps control porposing.

Rock on.
