37 ss and 40 ss info needed !
Hi guys ! went to see Pat at ocean performance marine in connecticut. First, I got to say my hats off to him and thanks for the time he took to show me his brokered 2002 37SS twin 496's. Very, very, professionnal, even on a boat that is not his stock. I can say that compared to another place I went for another brokered boat, and I can say, the owner will not, get his boat sold by this type of guy !!! Again Nice job Pat !
Long story short, for those of you who owns these 2 type of boats, I need some reel info on:
top speed of a 37SS with 502's:
496's:
40 SS 502's: 496: 500 EFI
AlsoI was told if I wanted to tow it, besides it is a wide load, I would have to take the arch off so it is not too high on the road... any truth to this?
I also met Jonh from comstock marina in Brick new jersey, showed me the 1999 419 liste here in classified ( really a clean boat by the way) and a 2001 40SS 500 EFI. Also professionnal, took a 30 minutes drive to get to that boat to show it to me!
I'm confused a little bit on top speed they reach... Would like the speed and ''trailerability'' of the 419, but the amenities of the SS... nothing's perfect!
Thanks for your input on these questions!

If your budget will support it, test drive a 400SS with the Volvo diesel package. You'll be surprised, especially at the fuel burn rate.

On the 400ss you do not have to remove the arch to trailer. although you will have to remove the flag mast, radar and spot light. with that being said that should get you to a bridge clearance of 13'3". Speeds on our 40 with 500's is 58 on gps with 8 people and a 1/2 tank of fuel.

The 400ss is a handful to trailer but it can be done. Fifth wheel hitch would be preferred vs. bumper pull. one ton diesel is minimum, i use a 3/4 ton but I don't tow regularly, just to and from storage and house and slip. Slip is only 4 miles and winter storage is 25.
I scout where we are going to trialer if possible & I don't move it far very often. You will need oversize permits and have to run flags and oversize load banners.
I'm happy to talk more if you send me a PM we can get phone numbers.

My 2008 370SS with 496HOs runs out at 55. Both the 370 and the 400 are great boats, but in gas, I would go 370. You really don't get much with blue motors in these boats. And as already said here, the 400 rocks in diesel. I have demoed the Volvo package twice, and it is awesome.
