Old topic--new thread.

That boat/setup has to be over 14K lbs. loaded, then fuel, water, beer, coolers, tools, parts, etc. etc.
Looking at the F350 4x4 Crew Cab Single Wheel Diesel myself. It's rated at 14,000lbs.

Formula: 10,450
Steel trailer: 2,500
Half tank gas: 600

Total 13,550

How much does your cooler weigh? I can usually carry mine with one hand.....30lbs?

Tool box? 30lbs?

Default towing 382

I have a 382 with genset and steel trailer. Weighs about 15,000. I had a 2007 F-250 and decided I needed a dually. I have a 2011 F-350 with the new motor and it pulls it fine. I feel better about the dual rear wheels in terms of stability and stopping the thing, took. Hope this helps.

I would definately recommend making this upgrade when pulling something as big and heavy as the 382. I had EOH drums and it was OK, but I upgraded to EOH disc with Kodiaks and they are the bomb. Well-worth the extra money.

It pulls it beautifuly, although it does have a set of these in it:

The only issue I have is with the brakes, the trailer brakes really need to be redone and I'll have those address before boating season. Other than that, the engine pulls is it fine and there's no wondering or other handling issues.

What's it weigh? Don't know...

Extra batteries, wire, amps, speakers, (magnets & boxes), all that stuff adds up, and adds up fast.

You CANNOT guess as your boat's weight. Run it across a scale and I guarantee it's more than you expect.

Wife, kids, family dog......

I tow with an F350 DRW V10. Plenty of times I wish I had the torque of a black-smoker.

Depending on the ramps you frequent, I'd say electric brakes are a must as well. Having brakes while backing down a steep ramp with that kind of weight is priceless. Before I added electric brakes, my rig would drag my F350 down the ramp.

Kids, wife.....they can ride in the truck with me so they don't add to the towed weight.

They don't really print the fine print! All this adds up into the gross weight capacity rating (gwcr) of the vehicle. You can't load 1000 lbs in the truck, and then tow the max capacity rating. (No, I am not calling anyone's wife fat!). You have to stay at or under the tow rating and the gwcr. If you put 500 lbs. in the cab and bed of the truck, you essentially now have 500 less pounds you can put behind that hitch.

Tow capacities are calculated with an empty truck and only a driver. There is so much more to it than the sticker on the hitch.

Haven't found the GWCR mentioned anywhere yet.
