Craig223 - some prop results
Craig,
Finally broke the motor in enough that I could do some short bursts up to 4500 RPM in my 223ls. Don't think the boat really likes the Quad IV 24 pitch I have on there ( with a 470+ hp 454 Mag). When I hit it from 3200 up to 4500 it jumps up to that rpm extremely quickly, but the prop cavitates like crazy and takes a while for the speed to build. I had a feeling that the four blade wasn't the right prop for this boat, but couldn't pass up the deal I got on it. I was also cruising at 3400 with a 1/4 trim and the prop completely blew out (water was calm, no rough). Rpm's tried to jump to redline on me, but caught it before it went too far. Very odd. Unfortunetely my GPS wouldn't aquire any satelites (think it's shot), so I couldn't get any speeds. I'll grap my buddies sunday so I can post some speeds. Think I'm gonna have to go with a mirage plus 3 blade. Not sure if I can swing a 25 pitch...may have to go with a 23 (might have to have it cupped into a 24).

223 props
Hey Scott,
Sorry it took me so long to respond, as i've been in Fla. on business. I'm running a 23 hydromotive 4 blade and it seems to be the best fit for my boat. I tried a 25 mirage plus (could only turn it 4500) a 23 mirage plus (4900) and a 23 mirage plus labbed by Merc (5100).
The mirage plus props made my boat feel heavy in the ass end and weren't any faster topend than the Hydro (more stern lift I guess). So now I have three spares.Another lesson learned
Let me know how you make out

Hi Craig,
Got my ten + hours on the motor now and can open her up for a short blast now. Gonna first try it with my 24 pitch Quad IV and then with a 23 pitch Mirage plus a buddy gave me. Got my GPS working (I think it was messed up from the smoke from the Canada forest fires - my only guess) and hopfully I can post some results after this weekend.
