Default Propellers on 353 Fastech 2x496HO

Spamming the forum right now with questions right now..

I found some cracks in one of my props, they are so big that I dont dare to run with them anymore.
I dont think its worth repairing either.

I have Bravo one 28p props RH/LH. The boat does an honest 73mph on GPS with 1/2 tank and 3 people on board at around 5000rpm which is about right on.
Probably 75mph with less fuel and just the girl onboard and a longer run at WOT.

I could by a new set of 28p or maybe a set of labbed 28ps or actually maybe a lab set of 30p? I will get them for about the same price, I dont care if I pay 900USD or 1100USD as long as get a good bang for the buck..

I have read some prop threads, but been unable to find the right answer. I think the 28p lab would be spot on.

With a full tank of gas and some more people the 5000rpm takes some time to reach.

What do you think? Maybe someone here owns a 353 496 with 28p lab?

If you are hitting 5K with non-labbed 28's with the load you described then labbed 28's will have you all over the rev-limiter. Unless all you care about is top end, I would stick with non-labbed 28's. Had a buddy with a 2001 353 with HO's and he ran labbed 30's. Was an absolute pig trying to get it to plane. Only ran about 73 MPH GPS at WOT. Another buddy had a 2000 Dominator with 454 MAG's and labbed 28's and he would walk away from the 353 on top end.

Thanks for the info!

Im hitting 5000rpm after a while at WOT with std 28p

But what is most important is mid range! Thats where Im most of the time.
I will not go for 30p labs, I like to get her out of the hole nicely!

But I was thinking 28p because maybe I can get a couple of mph more on midrange and 1-2 more on top end if its just easier for the engines to turn?

Give Brett at BBlades a call and see what he thinks and what he can do for you.

I have tried 30 labs with same set up and no gain on top end just slower planning and better cruise speed. 28 labs is the way to go IMO.

Will a set of standard props last longer, then a set of labs?
I boat in the ocean and its usually quite rough waters.

Someone told me that rough waters tend to kill the props.

I would like to know the stats from someone with the exact same setup who
has tried the 28p lab. I need to buy them now!!

been there done this- mine was a pig all around on 28's
put a pair of non-labbed 26 Bravos on it and be happy
no loss in top end my boat has run 74.5 GPS, runs the same as tested by Formula on 28's, 72-73 everyday
much better out of the hole
lower planing speed, will hold plane and stay bit down to about 34/35
better midrange the boat actually accelerates
was an absolute win all around.
you can thank me later

Thanks for the comment Rippem!

What you are mentioning is what I like to achieve with the lab 28p instead of std 28p.

But how can you get the same midrange speed at a given rpm with 26p vs 28p?

I do believe that acceleration gets better with 26 thou. .

I would like some further comments Rippem, Ill buy myself a set of 26p if you convince me enough, right now its the midrange speed that wants me to go for 28p lab instead..

gonna loose a couple Mph at RPM midrange
your not going to cruise highest efficiency and accelerate respectably from that mid cruise on the same props
loosing a couple mid MPH was worth the rest of the positives to me
top and bottom the 26's provide no loss of anything, and gains mentioned above including acceleration
plus the stock props are more durable, which seems to enter into the equation for you running in the rough
your choice, all props are a compromise to a greater or lesser extent
good luck
