I thought about some kind of a gas strut arrangement with an 'over center' mounting bracket. You couldn't flip it all the way over, but that really doesn't matter. Just not sure there is enough room to make it work.

Anyway to mount one of the catches they use on the swim ladder hatch? Might not be strong enough, but worth a try.
