260 - 280 ss
I must be getting old because I sold my 382 and want to downsize. I have been considering a 260 or 280 SS but have never been in either. Is there anyone willing to take me with you when you go out for a short cruise? I would certainly be willing to contribute to the cost. Long Is Sound would be perfect.
Thanks

My 382 would cruise (at great expense) at 60 but it wasn't a ride ride anyone enjoyed. Hurricane force wind and wind noise made it uncomfortable so going slower isn't as bad as you might think. I don't want to go slow though. 30 is a nice cruising speed if the boat is comfortably on plane. The 382 had it's nose up in the air at 30 unless you had the tabs down.

Both great boats, for sure. The 280 will get you an enclosed head compartment and a bit more cabin headroom. I looked at both and went with the 260. It had everything that I needed without the extra weight and the need for an extra engine as with the 280. Either boat has incredibly smooth ride, superb handling, and a great cockpit for entertaining.
My 260SS/ 377 Mag will top out at 48mph with 3 people and half tank of fuel. Best part is that it will also cruise at 30mph/ 3400rpm at 10-11 gal per hour. Good economy of operation is another plus and is not to be overlooked in this day and age. I'm on the Hudson River in NY which is not that far from the NY/ Conn. border.
