Turning in or out? out you are about there, in you are a little slow. Its all about x dem at that point. You should be at 5350 or so. Under 5 is a little over propped.. I had the same prop with a higher X. Saw 97 in fresh water..Havasu. If you are turning out and blowing out(cavatation) try some gorilla tape on the prop vents in the upper. Did wonders for me!

I would also suggest going with a 700 powered boat. We have a 600 powered boat and while it is an awesome boat, it is not as fast as I would like. Best I have ever seen was 86mph but average is 83 or so. We are in the middle of a complete overhaul and hope to add Imco drives and up the hp to 700 + with whipple kits.

It is not that the boat is that heavy (10,500 dry), it is just not a very efficient hull when compared to others and is side by side vs staggard.

For Reference:

Formula 382: 10,500 lbs (95 MPH w/ 700's)
Donzi 38 ZR: 10,775 lbs (106 MPH w/ 700's)
Cigarette 39 TG: 11,300 lbs (107 MPH w/ 700's)

No your right on the hull design. However for a step hull it has a rocker bottom, it is extremely forgiving for new owners/drivers. Very safe in spite of tab and drive trim in and out of turns.Cig is a flat hull design and needs a experienced driver especially turns at high speed. Faster but needs some skill.39 Cig is staggered. The difference in a 600 vs 700 is all about drives and surfacing propellers. The 600 was a ITS Bravo with a blower. It was a limited package with a bravo xr. The NXT at the time was close to a #6 with one downshaft that could swing a surfacing prop. The limiting factor was the transmission in the 700. It really liked only 700 and NO more.

Turning in. Blocking off the drive vents will help the hole shot?? I have always wondered. Cavitation on hole shot. Props load and then will spin to the moon untill you back off then reload them. Unless you just hold the throttle at 3000rpm ish. The X dim is high on the 382, almost even with the bottom, center of the prop shaft. 5200rpm light load, over trimmed and cool air. Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Gorilla tape on the ventilation slots on the back of the drive. Worth a try. worked great on mine. Let me know the result.

Try to get one with Ex Boxes. Not that they aren't a really nice boat with out them but they will run flatter, go faster, and it gives you room the run 380s instead of 280s. They really helped my boat in ruff water.
I'm running 500s rebuilt by Lingenfelter, Ex Boxes, a Kevler hull with a full cockpit and interior, 29s turning in, and no frig or gen. 82-83 GPS. Good luck, hope you find a really nice Formula, you will love it.
