Default Engine freshen up cost ???

I'm just curious what is normal ( if there is such thing) on cost to have say two 502 Mags pulled, freshened up, and put back in ??

Also how many hours are most putting on there engines before a rebuild on average ?? Just curious, Thanks.

You mean drop it off and pick it up you do no work? For 2 rebuilds and the labor of removing replacing, cleaning etc I would say 10k to 14k.

Regarding hours it's all over the place depending how they were run and taken care of. Those engines should go 750 to 1000 hours unless they were either run real hard or not taken care of.

I'd double the above estimate.

So up to 28k to rebuild 2 stock 502mags (assuming they are tired and not blown up, seized etc? That seems a little high to me, although I usually do most work myself so I guess I'm a little out of touch with engine builder/marina rates.

If the motors are well taken care of from new, i mean change oil and filters every 50 hrs or so don't overheat them and fog them when winterizing and dont store them in a salt air environment- you should get 2000+ hrs out of them. as far as the rebuild go i would buy two brand new long block 502's for 6500 each and removing the old ones dressing the new and installing 2400. for about 16000 two new motors installed and sell the old ones

I would at least check the valve train at 400 to be safe. And if the motors are out. Take a look at the mains.
Peace of mind.

Pistons $500
Rings $180
Bearings $150
Freeze plugs etc $50
Machine block $500
Polish crank $100
Recondition rods $150
New water pump
Flow and clean injectors
Valves
Springs
Gaskets
Belt
Oil
Fuel filter
Spark plugs
Wires
Thermostat
Manifolds
Risers
Add it all up, adds up quick. Now if you do it yourself, pulling stripping dressing etc can save a lot
