Why not use a thruhull transducer then you wont have to drill holes in your boat?

Topmmy,
I have a transducer located exactly as shown in your first picture. It does not work well on plane due to aeriation caused by the stepped hull.

I put my garmin external transducer in the same place on my Excalibur (pad bottom notched transom). Well just behind that location.
I tried locating the transducer at the same level as the bottom but with just a little speed it would get airrated and loose the bottom.
So then I located it just a little lower (1/8 to 1/4 inch) and it worked good. Unfortunatly if I got into ruff water the breakaway would release and the thing would swing back. then it wouldn't work untill I was practically stopped. The breakaway unhooks the transducer and lets it rotate backwards. It stops it from being torn out of the bottom of the boat. The breakaway would just clip back on , but I had to swim under the boat to do it!! Or wait untill it was back on the trailer.

I gave up and am going to install a shoot thru.

Did you drill out the coring before you installed the transducer?
It's the part I'm really nervous about.

Uhhhh , the directions didn't mention anything about hacking on my boat , I guess I'll live with it ... They kinda left that part out .

I Put It There Drill A 3/4" Hole Just Over Drain Plug.
It Does Great Up To 20 Mph Then Off And On.
It Is Alot Better Than My Thru Hull
We Will See How Long It Last
