Default where to put depth sender

I redid my dash this year, and bought a new depthsounder for it. The old one didn't work at any speed anymore, it was mounted on the transom.

The new one has a through-hull transducer.

Where is the best place to mount it?

I spent the $ to put one in a couple of years ago, and it never has worked. I don't think that it is getting a reading at all. Wish I hadn't wasted the money.

They wont work thru the hull unless you drill hole to mount flush to underneath hull. I'd pass on it as well. My 35 never worked.

my boat is a '91. no step.

is there coring in the bottom?

the boat's at the fiberglass shop right now. it's either a matter of paying him to make it work through the hull, or ordering an external transducer and having him install it.

i boat in shallow water all the time, and i'm getting kind of sick of using my GPS as a depthfinder

Mount it at least 10" off of the keel (center of vee), there is coring from the keel out 10". With no step, you should be ok mounting just about anywhere from the cabin step down back.

Have mounted many here when was working for the dealer with no problems, just make sure you sand both surfaces and use a good two part epoxy !!!!!!
