Fountain 32 Fever
35 Lightning twin step verses the single step

I have a 32 non-step fever and am about to but a deposit on a used 35 twin step.
Still really like the looks of the classics but can't pass up this deal. I have driven a few of the single steps but never the twin.
I am looking for any feedback any one has between the two, especially handling and ride?

Thanks Dan

Re: 35 Lightning twin step verses the single step

The twin step is obviously a little faster, but the single step handles more like a traditional non-stepped bottom. Turning, trimming with the twin step takes some getting used to but wouldn't deter my decision not to buy one.

Went from a single step 32 to a twin step 35. Didnt really notice to much difference between those two. Never drove a single step 35. The 35 twin step is a better balanced boat. Handled better in 2-4's than the 32 did, and was faster with the same horsepower. I dont think you will regret the purchase.

Thanks for the feedback.

Beak Boater,
You mentioned the balance, I have been told the twin rides so flat it feels like the bow is low. Is that your experience and how much trim are you running at high speed?

How do you find it planes off, I feel the 32 is much quicker to plane than a Classic.

Reggie, the only shot I have to be there with a boat is if I can pick this one up in time.

My 32 is all apart and I have conceited it will not be ready in time. I have to get it done so it can be sold!

There will a couple of other Fountains so should be a good showing. PM me your number if you like, I hope to be there Friday as well. I am on the southern end of the lake a few houses down from Epeek and his 35.

Re: 35 Lightning twin step verses the single step

The balance I was talking about, is if the 32 jumped out of the water it wanted to land ass first usually. The 35 flies level and lands that way. The reason some think the 35 runs flat, is because the deck on the 35 Lightning is sloped down away from the windshield. It gives you the feeling that you are running down hill. If you look at the 35 in pictures running at speed the steps keep the hull running at an angle of attack with the bow up and minimal wetted surface. The boat ran 88 MPH with 500 HP EFI's. It ran 104 MPH when I got rid of it. And Yes the boat takes a while to get on plane. The 32 would just pop on plane the 35 takes a bit longer. Ran both B1's and Hydromotive props it got on plane about the same.

Rick, looks good so far. Just need a co pilot for the trip this Friday. My standard can't go, he is still trying to get his custom bike built for Myrtle Beach. I haven't been to Myrtle since we started the Demo Race. He was trying to get me to go if I didn't have the boat done. I love this event don't want to miss it..
