Re: 42 Fountain bottoms ?
The 42 fountain has a very good ride. One of the best ive ever been on. Speeds should be around 83-84mph consistantly.

Re: 42 Fountain bottoms ?
Is this boat really a "38 footer" as many are saying?

Re: 42 Fountain bottoms ?
I bought my 2005 42 new and love the boat. Had a 35 for 8 yrs prior.
You won't crush waves, but rather skip over them. The faster you go the better it will ride which takes some getting used to.
Test ride one first and you will answer your own question. Happy shopping

Thanks, I did, but it was rough conditions 4'chop got to 70mph but I was really hanging on! I've only got rides in 38 Scarab AVS and Baja 38 special to compare it to, and those were in much milder waters. There seems to be a distinct difference in ride between stepped and straight hulls at the same length.

Re: 42 Fountain bottoms ?
Pair A Dice was a 42 Lightning full pleasure version with no light lay-up. A 3rd bolster could be popped in front for the 3rd man when needed.

I do know since the large step 42 bottom came out there have been a few revisions to it due to racing and Reggies on going R&D.

Is there any way to get more information on the bottoms? I've heard people say yes and others say no that the Lightining and Ex bottoms are different. Fountain Cust Svc just now told me they were different, that the small steps go on the Executioner, or staggered models. This is way too confusing...

Sounds like they thought you were talking about the 35 hulls. The 35 Ex and Lighting hulls are different but the 42 Ex and Lighting hulls are the same.
