Insurance, how much?

I live/boat Galveson Bay/Upper Texas coast. I run an 06 Lightning with twin 496HO, agreed upon value of 185k, costs me 1650 a year. Progressive told me that if I exceded 1000HP (ie twin525) the cost would blossom to 3700+ a year, thats if
they would even extend coverage on bigger hp? I am also no doubt paying a premium for living/boating in hurricane
teritory. I have a 25 year claimless boating history with boats worth 20K-500K and I also hold a capt license. Trying to get an idea of what other parts of the country are paying. I am thinking about stepping up to bigger boat with bigger HP but the cost of insurance may be a deal breaker

I have a 2000 35' Classic with HP500EFI's and it is insured with Allstate, stated value is $115K on the boat @ $714 per year and $10K on the trailer for $202 per year. This is in California and I have 45 years experience.

Progressive won't insure anything over 500....They "insured" my 525's until I found out they can't.

My 05 Lightning with 525's is insured through Liberty Mutual for $173,000 with a yearly premium of $2700. This is based on less than 3 years boating experience. Prior to the Lightning purchase, I had them quote an 04 Sonic 31SS with 496HO's valued at $105,000 with a yearly premium of $1500.

The agent stated the only reason they are insuring my Lightning is because I have my home owner's, auto, and personal umbrella policy with them.

Call Total Dollar Insurance in New York. They specialize in high performance boat insurance and are excellent brokers. I'm insuring my new Fountain with them and they got a policy for 1/2 of what Boat US wanted to charge. Sy Goldberg is the broker. He is outstanding. Find it on Google.

I just got my 2005 42' Ex/525's and called around for insurance. Total (SY) told me they are not writing policy's in the Gulf states right now. Talked to World Wide Marine and Empower in AZ and got the same quotes from both. 200K value and trailer for 3800 per year with 30 years of boating experience. Markel quoted over 5K per year. Seems expensive, but you have to have it.
