42 - different hulls....???
I just wonder if Fountain used different molds with different designs depending on the engine configuration / HPs used on each boat??
On 42 Lightnings, it appears that the fall 2005 and onwards has a higher hullside at the stern.
BUT on 1998 models, with low hullsides, I have seen at least two different bows, one with almost no strakes, and one that look more like the current 42 bow. Two different bows on the same model year... The steps also varies a bit. The newer boats has the steps longer back and they are less agressive (smaller) than the typical 1998 boat. But this does not correlate with the high/low hullside from late 2005. There is a yellow 2002 42 with Merc 900s for sale that has the low hullsides and the smaller steps as on newer boats.
I read one time that Fountain had different steps on a single 29 compared to a twin 29. Is that true? If yes, maybe the 42s also had two or three different hulls to choose from?
VERY curious on this... Don't know why, I just want to know... Has anyone tested the new step configuration versus the old one with the same hps? What is the difference?

I have a couple friends with 42's. One is a 99 and another is an 02. There are definite differences in the strakes and I think there is differences in the step height and their location. Both boats run great so I don't think I would make a determination of which boat to buy based on the bottom difference.
The 99 is a bravo boat with whipples that runs about 90-95 and the 02 is a #6 boat with big power but they run well at speed.

They are constantly making changes to the hulls based on sucess with the setup. As an example there are four 42's with 700sci's on my lake - they all have different props configurations and x-dims.

...when Reggie says that Outerlimits problem is "how to run fast" in the video a year or two back, then it is because he just know exactly what he is doing and how many years it took to learn that... M F is just a jung dude with much hps. Reggie is tha man! And we are the lucky owners of the best performance boats in the world!!
Any more info on this??
