I had 5,000BTU in my 31 Sonic. It worked pretty good. I have 12,500BTU in my 45 Sonic it works great. I don't think 5,000 is going to cut it in you 42. Sonic uses the same mold for the 42 and 45 down below, they just add three feet in the rear for engine placement.

The 42's come with 10K BTU MarineAir's from the factory. Mine will cool the interior down to the high 60's when it's 100* outside without a problem.

5000 will work ok in fair weather. extreme hot and humidity you might be dissappoointed. A buddy put a 9000 in his 42. worked great. I have a 6500 in my 32 and it works like a charm in all conditions. Get a R/C unit. The extra cost is well woth it. I think mine was only $50 more for it.

Reverse Cycle. Puts out both heat and cold. All they do is to install a solenoid switching valve to reverse the flow of the freon in the unit.

Gerald after you put enough batteries in your boat to run a 10K btu ac I will be able to walk right by you. You will need more than just a whipple upgrade to keep up.
