Question Fuel Switch Question

I have seen several 42's and they seem to all be rigged different. My boat has two tank switches, Port and Star, but they are three position switches. Up is front, Down is Back, Center I assume is Off? Could someone explain this to me. What are the gauges reading, The entire tank fuel Level? Are the tanks split in Half? Anyone ? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Midnight

Do you have the saddle tanks? If so they have on and off. They fill into the main tanks and that is what the fuel gauge reads.
Hope this helps
