Big cubes (especially carburated) generally idle faster due to needing more air to keep the fuel/air mixture moving down the large runners. Cam and valve size have alot to do with it as well. The bigger things are, the more air needs to keep moving for combustion. A slower idle and air simply stops moving. Add a blower and you may have the idle oscillate up and down. You can tune that out but it seems they all do that at some low range RPM at some time or another. My boat is N/A605ci and idling about 950 RPM. That's about as low as it goes after a good warm up.
