Fountain or Baja? Which one should I buy?
I have been boating for years but the go-fast boat bug has bitten me. So I am looking at the baja outlaw 29'-32' or the fountain 29'-32' fever. Single or twin engine, 454, 496, 502 it dosn't matter. On a trailer. 1996 or newer, $25000-$50000 price range. Maybe you own one or the other and can tell me both good and bad things about them. Posted on the Baja section too. Thanks

It all depends on what you are looking for in a boat. If you want speed and handling get the Fountain. If you want cockpit and cuddy space get the Baja. I would reccomend you get a twin engine boat vs. a single. That is just my preference though. The 29 Fountain will "fly" a little better though with the single vs. the twins (balanced better). For a Baja in the 29 foot range you will definentley need twins.

it all depends on money , more money gets you a fountain , better boat , but I have had 3 real nice Bajas , now 2 fountains . next ? can you afford twins ? it cost alot more to have twins , don't let anybody fool you , it does cost more .

glad we decided on the Fountain for our boat project... absolutely LOVED the lines of the 30' outlaw SST but with top speed in the 65-70 range with twins it was a no brainer for the Fever
on the expense side.. yes more expensive obviously with twins, but won't be once we get it away from the seller L! $1500 for a basic tune up and water pumps? 8hrs labor? sorry was born at night, not last night!!! thankfully the over all final price of the boat was decent. $42 g's for 97 32' with 502' twins on tri axle trailer.
good luck shopping!!
lim1965@yaho - that's a beautiful boat, you will not have any trouble unloading that amigo!!!

Wow in only one day I got all this good info Thanks guys. The cabin space issue was good info. I plan on trailering the boat because of ramp space around the upper Chesapeake bay and keeping the boat in the shop. Speaking of the shop. I do all my own work on my boats. So repair and parts cost are cut big time. But thanks for the tune-up cost info. To answer you speed question. Lets say cruise around 50 and getsome in the upper 70s or higher. I have all summer to make my decision because I don't leave Iraq until October. But keep any thoughts or comments on the 2 boats coming. So I can make a good educated purchase.

ford350 - be safe over there!!
for what it's worth I've spoken to many Baja owners who later went to fountain and all of them said the same thing, they were happy with their decision. As most here have said if its' more of a space issue with family/friends then the Baja, but for ride and performance it's Fountain .
As well I couldn't be more pleased with customer service at Fountain so far!
Having said that, I still personally prefer the lines on a 35' OUTLAW over the Lightning and should the right boat come along down the road I'll jump into an 35' Outlaw for looks and space

I'm not picking a fight. I like both brands. Fountain guys don't jump on my a$$.
Having owned three Bajas and one Fountain. I had more ticky-tac $hit go wrong with the Fountain than all three Bajas put together. And it was the newest at the time. Everyone talks about build quality on Fountain and likes to rip apart Bajas. In my opinion Baja is more boat for the money UNLESS you're only concern is top speed. I by no means agree with the majority of the boating public that Fountain far and away makes a better boat. In 2002 I went from a 1998 29 Fever to a 1999 Baja 302 and it felt like an upgrade...although I did slow down.
I would say prioritize what you're looking for in a boat. Narrow it down to a couple specific models of each brand and you'll be able to get great info from owners of each.
