Default Picked up my 38 from Brian @ Fountain Service

I had taken my 38 Lightning to Fountain Service for Brian Forehand to work on and all I can say is that he and his crew did a great job. He blueprinted the bottom and we also had Wilson Performance blueprint the #6 lowers. The runs like it is on rails and picked up speed. If anyone needs work done on their Fountain, Brian will do a great job for you. His department is still up and running.

The boat is an 08 38 Lightning with 700's. It ran 115 to 116but had some issues with the bottom and also the stock #6 lower units in getting good water to the props. The boat now runs over 120 consistantly with great handling. Part of the problem originally was me not being able to drive the boat up to its potential. Brian drove the boat berore and after so the speeds are real numbers. I was also along for the ride with him and learned alot. This is my third 38 but the first with this much power. Have ao 03 38 525 boat that runs mid 90"s at the LOTO shootout and also had a 96 500efi that ran high 80"s. The 38 is a great boat.

Nice.

Interested to know trim and tab setting you used.

Mine show 114 on recall.

Whats the latest with the Fountain Factory? Last i read the factory was abandoned? I'd like to see if they still carry the factory wind deflector for my boat, I know they did about a year ago or so. But with all the stuff going on lately, who knows what the story is!

BTW congrats on the upgrades! Sounds nice. Wish my 38 went that fast!! A little too old and heavy for those numbers!

292SR1: The trim setting was at 6, the boat needs very little trim and that was true before we did the changes. The trim guage works from the bottom up number wise. As far as the tabs go Brian was running the boat with the tabs all the way up on severl runs. Before the mods you had to run at 2 to 3. Also the water conditions were pretty flat with a little chop. We tested with 4 different prop set ups and the boat only wiggled a little on one run with the tabs all the way up. Brian is a great driver, and I think he could have let go of the wheel with the best set up on the boat and been OK. That would not have been a smart thing to do at those speeds.

Thanks for the reply ARB 38.

Agree these boats do not like trim. Run very flat (and fast) with wicked acceleration. I generally don't have tabs ever above 3 at WOT per advice from Shogren. 5 1/2 - 6 on trim too. Motors will go into guardian on over trim anyway and it doesn't make speed.

I have only felt a wiggle in the boat once and that was my fault for coming out of throttle a little too fast. Otherwise like a freight train.

Seems like Brian Forehand is the man (along with Reggie of course!) on fine tuning.

Have fun and be safe.

You will not go wrong with Brian. He does what he says he will do and also right on schedule.
