prochargers or whipples for 42
I have a 42 fountain with 2 502 bbc motors with holley fuel intake the motors are around 535 hp and i am looking to make they around 750 to 800 hp. What advice would yall have with going with the procharger and are they reliable or yall suggest just suck it up and pay the money for whipples. procharger set up is around 6000 a piece and whipple is around 11000 a piece. any advice lol

Otherwise take a look at Vortech as well. I know they make a lot of power and don't have the issues as the ProChargers with setup. I put a set on some 500 EFI's a few years back and they were bullet proof and ran great. The second owner after me I think got 300-400 hours trouble free. |
I put Whipples on a pair of 500 EFI's. They were turn key, never even so much as a hick-up from them. When I did the swap, ProCharger was having problems with their fuel mapping. They may have gotten it straight by now, its been several years since we did the upgrade. Dustin seems to have the ecms dialed in and trouble free.
Nothing worse than doing the upgrade and spending the whole summer chasing gremlins. I have heard stories that ProChargers customer service and tech advice could be better. Dusting Whipple is on the board and I have picked up the phone several times to ask questions, and always got a call back if he didnt answer it right away. |
I am doing a gut, rerig on a 42 now with prochargers that made 1200 Hp.
owner just bought Imco SCX that I will be swapping in for reliablility. Should be interesting !!! |
I love my Prochargers. TONS of power, enough to snap any part of my upgraded IMCO SC drives! My intercooled M3SC set up has been flawless. Tuning is perfect. Never had a single issue with any part, belts etc.
BUT... Like others have said, worry about drives first. I would rather be boating then broken at the dock. Enjoy your boat like it is. Save your money and buy a boat already rigged with #6 drives or arnesons, you will save money and time in the long run. RBH...even though some on here know fountian is not my personal fav, I love your avitar pic and would be proud to own that boat! |
Love the Whipples, never had a Procharger.
I have never broke a XR Drive... knock on wood. Have a buddy that has a Procharged 502 and he has had some issues with it. He even trailered the boat down to Precision Marine in LA. and it is still not running right. |
