So which setup would be more dependable, the whippled 500, or the blown 575? The most dependable motor your going to have is always factory so I guess I'm just like everyone, looking to gain hp/speed and keep it dependable for the best bang for your buck.

most dependable would be to freshen your 500EFI, put it all back together and not mess with it. It will also save you some $$$ LOL.

220 trouble free hours. Keep on the maintenance. Why would you go blue without a blower? I would have a 496 HO before a 525.

500 efi/whipple was my first choice, but couldnt find one...ended up buying a 496 with eagle rods and wiseco blower piston, with a 2.3L whipple....not many hours yet,but love it....

Fountain sold several 29's with 575's. They also sold a couple with the closed cooling 600, too. Our 29 with 575 SCi, was one of the new deck style (anchor locker and integral swim platform ladder). It ran right at 82 mph. Fountain also made some of the older deck style 29 singles with 575's in them. They ran 83-85 mph, but they were ~500 lbs lighter. The 575 blowers are a Weiand 256 and they are not known to be all that great. Older ones with front and rear oil baths seemed to be better. Newer ones had rear bearing issues when they went to sealed rear bearings. If I remember right, those rotors do not leave the factory with teflon stipping, too. Head gaskets on the older 575's were not that strong and would blow, trashing the engine, but those had the better blowers. Newer 575's had Cometic head gaskets, but not-so-good blowers. They like lots of premium fuel, too.
Boat is not scary in low 80's at all if you know what you are doing. Later 600SCi boats only ran 83-86 mph, too. Hope that helps.
