i usually pull the hose between the sea pump and thermostat at the thermostat housing and fill the lines/pump/block with the garden hose before i attempt to start it for the first time every year. Helps it prime, I lost 2 impellers and a housing one year on spring start up because I couldnt get them to prime

Wouldn't even waste anymore time. Replace impellers and housings.

Yes. I can't understand why Mercury used a plastic pump on a "racing" engine. Also the first time running each spring I must prime my sea strainer by loosening the cover bolts and letting it fill with water.
