Default Securing Trim Tab indicator cable through bracket on transom?

I had to repair something on one of my K-planes on my 29' Fever and I started securing the large nut that presses in the plastic ring and rubber sleeve around the indicator cable. Does anyone know how tight that nut should be because it doesn't seem like its supposed to be tightened to the point you can't go anymore. The nut on the other K-plane is not tightened all the way either. It seems like you just until the rubber sleeve is secured in place. Does anyone know the rule of thumb on this. Thanks
