Smile In the market for 1990-98 27'-32' fountain twin engine boat

Hello. I would much appreciate some opinions and suggestions on fountain fevers 27,29,32 twin engine boats. Will be using it in the Great Lakes area. Seems like there are 454s, and 502s in MPI and carbureted available. Where are theses boats prone to rot or water logging? I would be getting a survey before purchase. Any info would be great.

Survey is wise. I cannot give any input on the rot/water logging but I'm sure others can. When I boat shop, I always ask how it has been stored. I don't want to buy a boat that sits in the water all season. Most will be trailed or on a lift but you will be surprised. I've owned in this order, 29, 27, and currently a 32. Not sure of your boating history or background but going from a single to a twin is a big game changer. 27s are reasonably priced, convenient to boat with, store, and trailer. They get small quick after getting use to them. Cabin is tight and they don't handle chop well past 70. I don't think the older twin 27 would handle the extra weight in the rear well. 29 is a great all around boat. The price will reflect this. Most people prefer them in singles. More cockpit room if you go with a single and LOTS more room to work on the motor. If it weren't for the higher asking price, I would've bought another 29 instead of the 32. I bought my 32 significantly cheaper than the majority of nice 29s on the market. It's a pain to get in my garage but I'll get over it. 32s and 27s have the same cockpit room. Significantly more room in the cabin. Not much room in the bilge. Twin 502 mpis, runs high 70s. First fuel injected boat I've had. Nice how it starts right up, no warming up to keep it running. Stock you will find carbureted HP500s. That will get you in the 80s. They need valve springs every 2-300 hours. Lots of options out there. I wouldn't recommend a twin if it's your first performance boat.

Check for transome rot. If you do a search on this site you will find a lot of fountains were not sealed properly where the exhaust goes through the transome. That is a big expensive job espically if you are not expecting it.

Personally I wouldn't want a 27-29 with twin engine. I would stay with a single in that size.

Good luck

Forward bulkheads have been known to rot as well. Transom rot will in some cases lead to stringer repair.

Not a twin but my 29 Fever single will likely be for sale end of this season. low hours Tyler Crockett built 502 with an M3-SC kit on it and triple axle trailer
