Default How much HP to go 100 mph in 1996 35 Fountain?

For those who have been there - what engines, drives and props got the job done?

Thanks for the info,

Tom

Tom from what I have read you will need to raise your X-Dim and up HP to around 750HP each min. I am sure others will chime in and add on to this.

That,s a loaded question. No two boats are alike. There isn,t a simple answer.
Many variables come into focus here, type of drives, X dimension, etc. With bravo drives, you're limited with cubic inches (because of torque), which in turn limits your hp. So, smaller cu in, turn'em higher to make the hp and you won't have all the big torque that kills the bravo's.
Last option: #6's, the sky's the limit.

XR drives are being installed with 2" shorter sportmaster lowers. That should adress the X dimension and torque. Engines should make 700+ HP, how big a "+" we don't know yet.

I will agree. BAM's calculator for my boat ... 96 mph w/650hp.

Older non stepped 1993 35 with stock x-dim and Bravos.

I think you should be just over 100 but have no personal experience getting there.........yet

We had a 2000 twin step 35, 500 HP EFI's boat ran 88 on GPS. Installed Whipples plus IMCO SC's 1.35 gears standard length gearcase and 29 pitch 4 Blade Hydromotives, boat went 100.2 once, mostly 97-99 mph depending on load, water conditions ect. Rebuilt the same motors, stroked to 540 ci. Aluminum heads from AFR, 741 Cam from Crane different pistons. Motors never dynoed, Dustin figures, 700 HP with the 500 EFI whipple system. The engine builder who's combination I used had dynoed that same 540 combination at his shop and seen 800-850 hp. Boat would run consistantly 102-104, and with a shorter gear case and some prop work their was probably 5-7 mph more to be had These were box stock props never labbed. With the bigger engines, still used the same prop size and gear ratio, just turned the motors a little tighter at 5600 rpm. Hope this helps, have heard others with Fountains running faster with less HP. The most drastic improvement was the acceleration. It got to 100 mph in a real hurry. That was my experience before we sold the boat.

I spent a lot of time with 2 big HP 35's. Both were 97's which had a similar single step bottom to yours. One was powere by 675hp motors with stock X dimension, Stellings boxes, and Imco shorty drives. It ran 103 on GPS. The other was powered my 800's and ran 110 with XR's and no boxes. The acceleration in the 2nd boat with 800s was nuts. As said before no 2 boats will be alike but the numbers of these boats should tell you where you are at.

Thanks for all the excellent input guys. We will start with conservative boost, which should give us 700 HP, and see where we're at.
