Roll Call / Info for FMO Holiday Season Fun Run to Marco Island, FL - Sat. Dec 29th
Our 7th annual Holiday Season Fun Run to Marco Island, FL will be on Saturday Dec. 29th instead of New Years Day this year. We will start from the south side of the Sanibel Bridge at 11:00 AM. Lunch will be at C.J’s on the Bay in the Esplanade complex. We will again monitor the weather closely and if it is necessary to make any changes, we will get the information out ASAP. This is another important reason to register with us if you are planning on coming.
If you are able to join us, post up here or let me know by phone: 239-776-0481, or e mail: [email protected] Post your questions / comments here on this thread and I will do my best to answer them.
The run is free and open to all paid up FMO members with offshore boats capable of a safe 50 MPH min. cruising speed. We need to know who all is coming, so C.J’s and the dock master can be prepared for us. If you have friends wanting to join the club and do the run, they can join by going to www.ftmyersoffshore.org Sign up is quick and easy online or the form can be downloaded and mailed in.

Membership renewal: Please be mindful that if you have not renewed your membership for 2013, now would be a good time to do so. Please go to our website at www.ftmyersoffshore.org and complete the online form or download and mail it in. As well, we will have membership forms available at our lunch stop. Please note that to participate in FMO events your boat must be insured and your insurance information provided to us.
Route: From the Sanibel Bridge we will start behind the Nor Tech Team PREDATOR pace boat until the yellow flag drops when we can settle into a group that suits our speed. We will head south into San Carlos Bay, past Bonita Beach, past Naples ( swing in by the Naples pier as described in the " picture " section below ) and go into Marco Island at Big Marco Pass. From the Marco River, turn right into the first canal (before Snook Inn) making our way in the marked channel to C.J.s on the Bay at the Esplanade Marina.
Fuel / Distance: The distance from the Sanibel Bridge to Marco Island is about 45 miles each way. All boats are urged to leave with full fuel, particularly if you use high octane fuel that is hard to get. 89 octane fuel is available at club sponsor Pelican Pier Marina in the Marco River, a quarter mile beyond the Snook Inn on the right side. If you need higher octane fuel, please see me at the lunch stop.
Dockage: The public dockage at The Esplanade is located along the seawall. The dock master will do his best to keep as much dockage open for us as possible but he cannot turn the public away. Some rafting will likely be required sp please have lines and fenders ready on arrival. The slips are privately owned, so unless directed into a slip by the dock master, they should be avoided. Don't be afraid to show your appreciation to the dock master and slip him a few dollars. They are bringing extra staff just for our benefit.
Food: C.J’s will be serving us with a buffet style lunch and each participant will be responsible to C.J’s for their meal / drinks. Last year the cost was $ 20.00 ( includes tax & gratuity ) for the buffet and I am awaiting confirmation of this years pricing but will be in that range. Kids will be at a discount. Wrist bands will be given out as you pay for lunch on arrival.
50 / 50 draw: At lunch we will be selling 50 / 50 raffle tickets. Draw proceeds will go into the FMO student scholarship fund. Please support your Club, and the good work we are trying to do.
New FMO clothing line:
I am pleased to announce that we will have available for purchase at our Marco Island lunch stop, new FMO hats, visors, ladies v & scoop neck T’s, ladies tank tops, mens polo shirts as well as T’s in both long and short sleeve in a cool micro fibre material. Any profit generated by the sale of club clothing goes towards FMO’s student scholarship fund.
Communication: Inter boat communication to be on VHF channel 72. My cell is 239-776-0481. Anyone dropping out after the start should let me know so we do not spend time waiting or looking for you. Leave a voice mail if no answer.
Pictures: On this event, Jay will be positioned on the Naples pier ( 26 / 07 / 53 N; 81 / 48 / 32 W ) and will capture us as we pass by. He is asking that we approach the pier from offshore on an angle ( see illustrative picture posted below ) which will allow him to get a straight on shot of you, and then by swinging back offshore will allow him to capture your boat from the side. Please do not come close to the pier as there is a minimum distance that must be kept. His telephoto lens can capture you nicely from a quarter mile away. As always after each run, Jay will post his pictures up on OSO and I will provide links so you can view them on your computer. You may contact Jay directly should you wish to purchase any of the pictures but there is no obligation.

Count us in. I've just got an 1100 mile tow next week and we'll be ready.

Hi Bob, we are in, two for sure. Hey Mike we have a 1,350 mile haul without boat which makes it a bit easier. I took ours down for the last run. Remember it's all good.
