Default Roll Call / Info for FMO Sat. March 30th Easter Weekend Fun Run to Punta Gorda, FL

It has been a few years since FMO has been up to Punta Gorda. We are looking forward to our return to Harpoon Harry’s. We will be eating upstairs at The Captain’s Table which is perfect for our size group and a nice venue overlooking Charlotte Harbor.

Attending Captains should read this information carefully to minimize any confusion.

This is the last of two club fund raising events with the other 4 fun runs being free of charge to club members.

If you are planning on attending this event, please let me know by 2 PM Thursday, March 28th as the restaurant must order our food and plan for our arrival in advance. You may e mail me, or post up on our event thread on OSO. I will need to know the total number of attendees.

Come out and have a great day on the water with like minded powerboat enthusiasts and support FMO’s charitable student scholarship foundation.

If your boat is down for service or repair and you feel like driving to Punta Gorda and joining us for lunch, club members are most welcome to do so. Please be sure to let me know, so sufficient food can be arranged for.

Route:

Our starting point will once again be the south side of the Sanibel Bridge. Boats should assemble around 10:45 am and we will leave by 11:00 AM sharp. Please do not be late for the start, as it it unfair to the group as a whole.

My expectation is that we will all run together up the ICW and once we hit the open waters of Charlotte Harbor, if any of the faster boats want to go on ahead they should feel free to do so. Be aware that there are some shoals and hazards to watch for both in the ICW and on Charlotte Harbor and it is important to follow the channel markers that will keep you out of trouble. I will act as the start / pace boat and will lead the group up the ICW to Charlotte Harbor and on up to Punta Gorda. Please be aware that the ICW can be busy and we need to respect others using the waterway.

Membership information:

All vessels participating in FMO events are required to carry insurance and have a club membership. Memberships are on a calendar year basis and if you have not yet renewed your membership for 2013, or are new and wanting to join the club, you may do so online. Go to www.ftmyersoffshore.org and click on “membership”. You may also renew at any event during the lunch stop. There is no change in membership fees starting at a very reasonable $ 60.00 for a “Boaters Membership”. If you are a current member, we will only need basic information as it is already on file unless there have been changes. People tell me all the time what a great thing FMO has going on here in SW Florida and it can only continue if you continue to show your support for your club. A current copy of your vessel insurance information should be e mailed to myself or Eric Belisle [email protected] who is tracking that on behalf of the club.

Entry fee:

Since this event is 1 of 2 designated fund raising events we have each year, each boat Captain is required to pay an entry fee of $ 100.00, payable at our lunch stop. Proceeds from our fund raising activities go to support FMO’s student scholarship fund. I will have a desk set up at lunch, so please be sure to stop by and pay your entry fee.

50 / 50 draw: At lunch we will be selling 50 / 50 raffle tickets also in support of our FMO student scholarship fund. Please support your club, and the good work we are trying to do. We will have our draw about 2:45 PM concluding the organized activities for the day.

Dockage: dockage will be along the seawall on the south side of Harpoon Harry’s. Some rafting will likely be required, so bring your fenders. The marina on the north side can likely take any overflow if needed.

Lunch:

We will be eating upstairs at The Captain’s Table section of Harpoon Harry's. They will be serving us a buffet consisting of Pot Roast / Chicken Mandarin Salad / Mahi Mahi sandwiches. Also included are tea, coffee, water, sodas as well as a cheese cake desert all for a very reasonable $ 17.00 including tax and gratuity. Kids are half price. Wrist bands will be issued after your lunch fee has been paid and prior to you entering the buffet line.

After lunch: you have the option of choosing one of two ways home. Offshore via Boca Grande Pass, or ICW. Again, if using the ICW please consider other boat traffic, with it being a holiday weekend. We will not be traveling in the Matlacha Channel on this event due to it being mid tide during our run.

FMO clothing line:

We will have available for purchase at our lunch stop at Harpoon Harry’s, new hats, visors, ladies v and scoop neck T’s, ladies tank tops, mens T’s in both long and short sleeve in a cool micro fibre material. Any profit generated by the sale of club clothing goes towards FMO’s student scholarship fund.

Fuel / Distance:

From the Sanibel Bridge to Punta Gorda and back should be about 100 miles for those running the ICW up and back. If your return is offshore via Boca Grande, your total mileage will approach 118 miles. Fuel is available at nearby FMO sponsor Punta Gorda Marina, just north of the bridge. 93 octane is very difficult to find these days so please leave with a full tank if you use high octane fuel.

Pictures:

Club photographer Jay Nichols (OSO Jayboat) will be aboard Frank Fasulo’s Stingray in Charlotte Harbor a mile or so before you reach the entrance channel to Harpoon Harry’s. No need to get too close with Jay and Frank’s telephoto lense capabilities. Later, Jay and I expect Frank too will post as many pictures of your boats on OSO as they can. I will send out links to the membership as to where they can be found.

Communication:

Inter boat communication to be on VHF channel 72. My cell number is 239 776 0481. Anyone dropping out after the start should let me know so we do not spend time either waiting or looking for you. Leave a voicemail if no answer.

When running in the Intra Coastal Waterway ( ICW ) please be aware that this can be a high traffic area and we ask that other boats be given a wide berth and that the rules of the road (waterway) be adhered to.

Yep, we're in on our boat (38 Cig).

Flying in on Wednesday, staying (and keeping the boat) @ Tarpon Point for the week.. Anyone up for a Friday afternoon Happy Hour @ the outdoor bar?

Very much looking forward to seeing everyone again.....and being more involved in the club in the future. We bought a house in Cape Coral and settle in April on it.

Craig

Welcome to Cape Coral and congrats on your new home purchase, Craig. A little birdie told me that a week or so ago. LOL See you & Nancy soon.
