Info / Roll call for FMO April 17 - 19, 2015 weekend run to Hyatt, Sarasota, FL
Since the weekend run to the Hyatt in Sarasota has been such a success this last 3 seasons, we have included it again on our 2015 schedule. The event will take place with departure for Sarasota on Friday April 17th and returning on Sunday morning April 19th. With the event being held in April this year, we can look forward to much warmer weather and being able to take advantage of their gorgeous pool and outdoor facilities.
The following is the clubs planned itinerary for the weekend:
Departure: We will leave for Sarasota from our usual rally point, the Sanibel Bridge at 10 AM sharp on Friday, April 17th. Pace boat - Bob's 38’ Statement CC. Please note that there is no organized group for a Saturday departure however that could change if there is demand for it.
Routing / Distance: The distance each way is about 82 miles +/-. We will take the ICW to Boca Grande Pass and stop there for a few minutes to re group. From there we will then run offshore to Sarasota. We will re enter the ICW at Big Sarasota Pass and proceed to the Hyatt. If the Gulf is too rough, we will run the ICW all the way up as was done in January, 2012. Trip time is just under 2 hrs running off shore and close to 3.5 hrs via ICW.
Communications: Inter boat communication will be by VHF channel 72. Also Bob’s cell number is 239-776-0481. Anyone dropping out should call and leave a message if no answer so we do not spend time waiting or looking for you.
Friday afternoon /evening: We have not made any immediate plans for after our arrival on Friday with so much happening on Saturday. It will be a good chance to unwind and relax by their gorgeous pool or hang out at the boats. Traditionally smaller groups have gotten together for dinner either at the Hyatt or alternatively go out to one of the many great restaurants in Sarasota. We will post some recommended restaurants closer to event time. After dinner we can meet and socialize at the Hyatt lobby bar is a nice venue.
Saturday April 18th optional fun run: We will idled out of the marina at 11:00 AM in time for a 11:15 AM departure for an optional lunch run to the Tarpon Pointe Grill on the Manatee River in Bradenton. The last few years Ryan Beckley has gotten some of the local Sarasota area boaters together to join us for the run. After lunch all boats will run back to the Hyatt. Free time for the rest of the afternoon.
Saturday evening. 6:30 - 7 PM pre dinner poolside cocktail party then dinner for the entire group from 7 to 8:30 PM. We will again be having our dinner on the patio adjacent to the pool which is a gorgeous setting. After dinner, we will have a party from 8:30 till 11:30 PM in either the Boathouse or the Tropics Room overlooking the pool / marina. Arrangements have been made for a DJ as we have done in past years.
Sunday return to Ft. Myers / Cape Coral area. The main group will leave the Hyatt after breakfast at 10:30 AM ish. Some may choose to leave earlier or later. Perhaps some will want to stop for lunch as we get close to home with their group. We will leave it up to each to make their own plans on that. Last year some stopped in at Cabbage Key as we will be ahead of their usual lunchtime rush and they should be able to accommodate us. There are many waterfront restaurants on Pine Island Sound to choose from.
Boat slips: FMO has all 28 boat slips in the marina booked for our group. Slip reservation is to be done thru FMO not the Hyatt. ( Bob will be the contact person ) A slip can only be reserved on a first come first serve basis after your hotel room is booked. There is considerable savings to attendees by us booking the complete marina. Costs are outlined below. Priority will go to those staying both Friday night and Saturday night at the Hyatt. Single night slips will only be designated if available. Once the 28 Hyatt slips are booked, any overflow can stay at nearby Marina Jacks or an alternate marina at an additional cost paid directly to that marina.
Hotel rooms: Standard hotel rooms are $195.00 per night plus tax for single or double occupancy. Upgraded balcony rooms are available at a higher rate. Last year I was able to add rooms to our initial booking however there is no guarantee that we can do that this year so if you are planning on coming, be sure to book early. The deadline / cut off date is the earlier of March 20, 2015 or when our block of 40 rooms is sold out. I will monitor room bookings and post availability from time to time. You may book your room online quickly and easily by going to this link which is customized for our event : https://resweb.passkey.com/go/ftmyers The Hyatt phone number is 941-953-1234 if you have any special requirements. Be sure to tell them you are part of the Ft. Myers Offshore Group.
FMO event fee: There is an event fee payable to FMO of $ 90.00 for each passenger on each boat as well as any who may choose to drive. That amount covers all your weekend activities including your 4 course dinner (menu to be circulated to participants at a later date) Saturday evening at the Hyatt, the party that follows in either the Boathouse or the Tropics Room Saturday evening and the cost of the DJ. There will be a cash bar. Since FMO has to cover certain fixed costs with guaranteed minimums we cannot have people opting out of dinner and just showing up for the party. So if there are 4 people on a boat or driving, 4 people will have to pay the event fee. That is the only way this can work and have us meet out contractural obligations to the Hyatt. Any surplus funds over our cost will go directly to FMO's student scholarship fund.
Captain's event fee: The Captain's event fee is $ 150.00 which is $ 60.00 higher than his passengers to cover the cost of your slip at the Hyatt for 2 nights including a gratuity for the dock master as well as Saturday dinner and after party with DJ as described above. This a considerable saving's over the $2.00 / ft. per night that Hyatt normally charges for slips. If your are staying on your boat and / or require shore power, there is an additional charge of approximately $ 10.00 per day. Note: Those Captain's keeping their boat at Marina Jack's or alternate marina would not be paying FMO the extra $ 60.00. They will just pay the $ 90 event fee like their passengers. As stated, they will however be responsible to Marina Jack or alternate marina for their slip cost there.
Pricing summary: As an example of a typical boat with 4 people on it, the Captain would pay $150 plus $ 270 for 3 additional guests (3 x $ 90 ) for a total of $ 420.00 payable to FMO. It will make our job a whole lot easier if each captain pays for his boatload and collects from his guests instead of 100 or so people all descending upon us at the event.
Payment of your event fee: Since this is a rain or shine event, we are asking that you either pre pay on our website using PayPal or mail in your FMO event fee once you have reasonably determined how many people will be on your boat. We have had to sign a contract with staged deposits to the Hyatt so prepayment is necessary for the club to meet it’s obligations. Also your board members do not want to spend a lot of their time in Sarasota dealing with money. They should be there to enjoy the event like everyone else.
You can pay using PayPal by going to www.ftmyersoffshore.com and under “ Events “ you will will see separate “ Add to Cart “ buttons for the Captain and crew for event # 9, Hyatt Sarasota weekend.
OR
Make your check payable to FMO and mail to our club treasurer at:

How to register for this event: You will need to be a paid up member of FMO and have provided us with your boat insurance details to attend. Let Bob know how many you think will be on your boat. We realize the number of guests on your boat could change, however by the cut off date of March 20th we will need to have a pretty good idea of who all is coming. Just e mail Bob with any changes to your crew. You may post up on our OSO event thread or e mail [email protected] As with all our events we will maintain a list of participants with this event listed in order of registration.
Pictures: Club photographer Jay Nichols will be joining us for the Sarasota weekend. He will shoot our arrival from the bridge just prior to our arrival at the Hyatt on Friday and also be with us on one of the boats for the lunch run Saturday.
