Key West World Championship On Schedule For 2005
04.06.04—KEY WEST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ON SCHEDULE FOR 2005: Conch Republic Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (CROPBRA) signs a five (5) year contract with Super Boat International Productions to sanction the SBIP/APBA-UIM Offshore "Key West World Championship" race. This year's race is schedule for November 13-20, with three days of racing, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
"The 2004 "Key West World Championship" was such a major success coming into the Harbor, CROPBRA wanted to get it locked in for the next five years, so everyone knows it's coming and can plan ahead", said Bill Spottswood, President of CROPBRA.
Last year CROPBRA took on the challenge to bring powerboat racing back to their community, to make it the success that it was many years ago, they did that. This year celebrates the 25th year of the World Championship race in the City of Key West. With this prestigious title of the Silver anniversary CROPBRA wants to make this the biggest race the City has ever had. CROPBRA needs the support of the hotels, restaurants, bars and retail stores to be part of the extravaganza.
In Powerboat Magazines April issue they refer to the "Key West World Championship" race as No. 1 of the top eight World's Best Boat Races. "The criteria we used to establish the list of events—and we've been to all of them and may more several times—was anything but simple. It included, but was not limited to, racing action, viewing, fleet size, historical significance and—of course—the party scene", said Matt Trulio of Powerboat Magazine. He goes on to say how exciting the race is as it roars past Mallory Square into a 180-degree turn in the Harbor and the party scene turns into one crowd as it moves from bar to bar.
Along with a terrific event, Key West received T.V. exposure on Outdoor Life Network (OLN). "Last years show received high ratings giving Key West good exposure, from the racing shots to the Duval Street Partying. The show not only highlights the City and it's lifestyle but it also shows the crystal clear water from the helicopter shots", said John Carbonell, President of SBIP/APBA-UIM Offshore. Again this year the OLN show is an hour long with two air dates, the first show at prime time. OLN has a viewer ship of sixty-four million households and growing rapidly.
