Comparison thoughts?
Let's just say, hypothetically, that there's this guy that is looking for a boat. Now, this "friend" of mine has some certain requirements, including:
My "friend" has found a couple of boats that seem to meet the criteria. One is a 1993 Formula 271 (pre-Fastek), single stock 502 Mag (carbed). Boat looks to be all stock, approx 500 hrs on the motor/drive. Second boat is a 1997 Powerquest 260. Numerous updates both cosmetic and performance-related. Roughly half t he hours as the Formula. The Formula will likely be a fair amount cheaper. Thoughts? |
Re: Comparison thoughts?
Between the two boats mentioned, I would buy the Formula. I think it's a better looking boat.

Re: Comparison thoughts?
For 35K I would try and find a 99 or 2000 outlaw ??

You really want to tow 7800 lbs behind a Durango???.... I wouldn't. Anyway, tell your "freind" to go with the Formula... the PQ is really a 25' boat masquerading as a 26 (same hull as the 257, just a new name)...
There you go..... |
Re: Comparison thoughts?
Their is a Z-29 Donzi for sale on the Donzi site.I would check that boat out.Better looking than both those boats and sounds like it is in excellent mechanical shape.

Re: Comparison thoughts?
I haven't been in a 260 Powerquest, but I really like their 34 and 38's. the Formula's are a lower profile boat than a PQ and it might have more room even though it's 1 ft shorter. Depending on region, the Formula will likely have better resale value.

Re: Comparison thoughts?
Or possibly look for a used 28 Sunsation... should be able to find one of those in Michigan at or near the price of the PQ or Formula.

Re: Comparison thoughts?
There was a 2000 288 a couple of years back going for 42, so they can be found.. I too would go w/ a 288..

Re: Comparison thoughts?
I looked but couldn't find a 288 Sunsation (which would be my choice) for the right money. *Really* don't want to go higher than $35K, would be happier at $30K. Appreciate the suggestion on the Baja, but something about those boats just leave me cold - can't put a finger on it and I'm certainly not Baja-bashing, just the way it is. Fountain is the same for me, just can't get excited about their styling, though I appreciate the performance.
I, I mean "my friend" was leaning toward the PQ, but you are making me think twice.... |
