Re: What kind of HP numbers for mecury 525's
dhlaw that is one crazy looking setup.. Looks awesome are they 496's and is there a lot of work done to them. If so thats the craziest exhaust setup i've seen on a 496 yet!
Troutly thanks for the video I looked all over the boat test website and there wasn't really any 525's that they show idling from the back of the boat.. But good call..
Really looking for a video of a 525 idling around the docks or something like that i can hear the exhaust from behind the boat.. Does anyone know the cam specs like lift, duration, lobe separation?
Thanks again for all the replies.
I have a boat on order and I upgraded my motor package from the 496 ho to the 525 and just wondering if I made a good decision and would love to hear what it sounds like. Just seeing what kind of upgrades there are and what kind should becoming available and how reliable theses packages are. Anyone know of any problems with these motors?

That is one sick boat.. Is that boat really powered with 496's and how does it run. I'm really impressed that exhaust(and the whole boat) is it super loud with those pipes aimed in that direction?

Hey Rob do you think you could send a copy of the video you have with 525 on the dyno? I'll pm you my email address..
Mike
Is there any port work that can be done to these heads for more power? And does anyone know the kind of numbers that they flow out of the box?
How about the specs on the cam the 525 motors use? I looked on the mercruiser website but it doesn't say anything about the cam...

My 525 sounded incredible before mufflers. Great bite, loud loud rumble. I melted when I started it. Sounds amazing while running.
I just put Gibson Bullet mufflers on and brought decibals from 96 to just over 85 (test could have been flawed) Much quieter low end. Still screams at around 5,000 RPM.
I love my motor!!! Everyone I have ever spoken to has said the motor is bulletproof. In my 28' Eagle I hit 70mph at about 4900 RPM (5000 before muffs). I will try a labbed 26 (instead of a stock 26) to see if I can get some more revs out of it. I should have 3-400 more to go . . . hopefully closer to 75mph!
