Paging Brownie

Hey Brownie: do you have any pics and or info about the flight marine cats, they seem to be good runners in the rough, thanks: Matt

I have some pix of Popeye's, Sheer Terror, etc. I'll have to dig them out and post them.

Brownie: if you could that would be great, by the way, were the racing versions stand up or sit down?, thanks: Matt

Hey Brownie... do you have any information on the Blonde 788? Old School boat.

Any information you might have would be helpful.

Spicy person,

Are you thinking of Roger Hanks' Cigarette? Let me know which boat, and I'll look around my empty head.

That is a 36 foot Cigarette. Roger Hanks was from Texas and had a series of these boats.

The most famous photo was of him sticking through the side of a 44 foot Hatteras turn boat in the '73 Fort Lauderdale race. He lost his power steering and just couldn't get it around the boat.

The 36 was the standard racer of the early 70's and continued to win many races until the newer sleeker 35 footer came out.

Don Aronow called the 35 the best boat he had ever designed. That of course was stretched in '78 to become a 37.6 or as we all know it today, the Top Gun.

I hope this helps for now. Brownie will have much more to add I'm sure.

Top,
Thank you for the 411. This certainly helps. Nothing like Cigarette history!

Re: Paging Brownie

That particular boat was the first offshore boat to have Patterson headers. Hanks towed it all the way to the left coast to have the headers installed. Our eyes were as big as saucers when we saw those headers. BIG power advantage.

Hanks was quite an innovator. I don't think he ever won a race out here (not sure) but he was hell for trying.

Brownie

I think I remember Hanks winning a European race and a Florida race...either a Ft Lauderdale or a Key West....maybe the Miami to Key West?

Trying to clear up the memory banks but, you may be right and he just raced without ever a victory.
