Default What Cubic Inch 572, 622?

It's time to build the engine for my Superboat. I plan on going all natural big cubes 700 - 800hp single carb. 572ci minumum. Should I go bigger like 600+ or not? I'm looking for pros and cons for the attitude of idle and reliability ect...

well I don't know much about them, but I believe a 572 can be made with bore equal to stroke which at least sounds the most efficient from an engineering prospective... I believe it's 4.5"bore and 4.5"stroke.. but Id like to have 700+ inches also geez wouldn't 8" be enough

A 572ci is a square motor but it is a 4.5" bore and stroke.
I have had very good luck with 598 cu combo 4.6 bore and 4.5 stroke. There is no replacement for displacement. This larger bore is suppose to help unshroud the valves a little besides the cubic inches. This has become a very popular combo.
You should be able to make 750-800 hp very easily with some decent heads. we made 740hp with plane heads and Hyd roller cams 6 yrs ago and the heads have improved alot since then.

Sounds good. No issues with large CI and good idle for Bravo style drives? Much diiference in low end torque compared to a 509 blower motor?

I had a 588 inch tall deck in my 26' AO. It ran one "monster" carb, roller cam, with all the goodies inside. It made 735HP. built by Bob Wallace of Offshore Performance in Southern NJ,

At a 4.60" bore, you are the limit of the block, so when you need to rebuild, you'll need a new block. Why not go with a longer stroke and get more torque out of the engine than boring the block to the limit to begin with. All that aside, if you are going to put this kind of power on a "Bravo style" drive, well, you already know the answer to that one.
