Question drive alignment????

I have blown 3 TRS drives all on the port side in the past 2 years. I am beginning to think that the alignment is off on that side, since I have never lost the other one. We align Industrial pumps coupled to motors where I work, which has to be exact, so I can imagine that a drive spinning that fast would need the same thing or it would wear quicker. How do you do this??? I think I saw a device somewhere that goes through the transom hole to line up the drive to the tranny. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Merc dealers will have what you need... and may loan/rent it to you. If not, I'm sure someone here on OSO has the exact tool you need to make your alignment perfect.

Out of alinged drives usually eat the couplers or u-joints first. In your case, no coupler so I would think the u-joints would be the first to go... if the drive itself (is the top or bottom going out on you??) is blowing up, I'd be finding a new mechanic.

Sounds like someones not rebuilding them properly. I have seen TRS's put on boats with the alignment all out of wack and still last 3 times as long as a bravo that was lined up. The alignment usually won't trash the drive. How is you prop? If it bend or out a balance it will hurt more then the alignment. Don't know where you live but I have a guy who knows how to build them right.
I also have 4 drives for sale if you need them for back ups. 2 were just rebuilt.
