Re: diesel performance
I also have a 2001 with the 5.9. Mine is an auto, and I don't plan on throwing any more power to it till I get a better tranny in it. Have you joined the TDR yet, if not you need to, lot of good info for Cummins owners there.

Re: diesel performance
Got a red 2001 cummins, first did trans shift kit, then guages, then went with EDGE COMP module, it has 5 levels and 5 sub levels. even on level 1 I am pulling my 10,000 boat up hills 20 mph faster, last trip to havasu came up 395 past bishop 6% grade at 65 mph with boat on level 2x4. level 5x5 you now have a race truck, just have to keep an eye on the EGT. 1350 max pre turbo for continous pulling. did 4 in strait pipe, egt came down about 50. not much but it sounds mean

Re: diesel performance
Diesel trucks are like performance boats, you can never leave them stock. I also added guages, MBRP exhaust and a few other little tid bits. Now I want more. A high performance trans is next on the list.

Re: diesel performance
I've got a BOMBed 01 Dodge.
I wanted something that pulled my boat and snowmobile trailer (both around #7000) a little better than stock without worrying about EGT's and blowing up transmissions. Sure it isn't as fast as some of these trucks but I'm pretty happy with it. It IS tempting to add a Edge Comp though !
Here's the list:
RV275 injectors
Edge EZ
AFE air intake and filter
FASS fuel pump/filter
4" exhaust
DTT 89% torque converter and towing valvebody
This truck gets 20-21 mpg (not towing) and 15-19mpg (towing) , mileage is really effected by speed. Those figures are driving 65-70mph. I've had as bad as 12mpg (towing) but that was at 80 +.
I've always heard good things about TST but mostly with the 12 valve motors. I prefer the EDGE , that company really stands behind thier product.
Whatever you end up doing make sure you had gauges and do something to get rid of the weak ass lift pump. You don't want to replace a VP44.
