A dumb throttle/shifter question
I'm trying to find out if anyone here knows whether a set of controls(like gafrig or Zero effort) controls will work with the existing cables on my new 27pc Formula? I've never had a set of standard twin engine controls in my life and so far I'm not liking them so much especially during low speed maneuvering.
Next question is do any of you offshore brothers have a set of used ones that they would like to get rid of for a reasonable price so that I can experiment with this setup?
Nick

Re: A dumb throttle/shifter question
I have a 32 foot wellcraft excalibur that I'm working on that has that set-up, and I want to change to the seperate drive and throttle, but its a twin engine boat, is yours a twin? Also I had the same question as you, can you switch between the 2 or do you need a whole new system?? If I switch I will gladly give you mine, but that may not be for a few months. Gotta finish the one in the water before I play with the one on land.

The standard Mercruiser cables will not work with the zero effort style controls. To do the job you need to by 4 3300 style cables and 2 Mercruiser adapter sets. The controls will take the cables with no adapter but the engines need them. I always use Teleflex TFXtreme cables and you will be amazed at the difference they make. You can look on the cables near the ends and they should have a number that will give you the length-either in inches or feet.
Oh and a plug- www.boatfix.com has real good prices on the cables and adapters, Trick Marine has the controls

If that is the problem, the answer is yes, you can use the same cables. I just changed them in my Formula. I had to buy different pivots for them. Trick can get the pivots.

I got used to the seperate throttle/shift levers for each engine like my fastech had and now with the twins in the pc the shifter/throttle setup is a single stick per motor, and I'm having a real problem getting used to controling the low speed manuvering with my present setup

That's the way my 302 throttles were. I just switched them out for Gaffrigs, cables are the same, I just had to get longer pivots.
