Local info. part II. Clearwater/St. Pete/Fort Meyers area

I'm looking for local info for the best places to stay (marinas with diesel fuel & night life etc...).
I'll be topping off fuel in Apalachicola & making a straight run down to the St. Pete area. Then I have to make the decision on what to do with the Okeechobee. Possibly leave St. Pete before dawn & run down to Ft. Meyers & try to get across to the East Coast in one day or lay up somewhere near Ft Meyers & take off the next morning.
Any suggestions? 50 Bertram/24 knot cruise.

Thanks again!
Dave

Dave,

With a 24 kt cruise, you are not going to make it across the lake in one day from Clearwater. If you are stopping in Clearwater, you may want to stay at the Clearwater Municipal Marina on Clearwater Beach. It is 1 mile north of Clearwater Pass, has fuel, and you can find a number of bars and restaurants within walking distance from the marina. The next day it will take you about 5/6 hours to get to Ft. Meyers Municipal which is downtown Ft. Meyers, has fuel and again is walking distance to bars and restaurants. The following day is a full day (8/9 hours) across the lake due to locks and no wake zones. Have a safe trip.
