came thru solid 8's on the way back across lake Erie from Detroit in a 28 Cigarette...I love rough water but when its too rough to run on plane and your props keep breaking loose then its no longer fun I sent Donzichick's non boating friend to the ER for stitches in her lip after she slammed her face into a grab handle.....not a fun ride at all

The worst was when we were finishing our 1200-mile cruise last year. I was desparately sick and exhausted from bad food the night before. We had to make a 100-mile run up Chesapeake Bay into the wind. If I hadn't been so exhausted, the 4-5 footers would not have been so bad, and we could have managed 55 or so. The problem was that I just coudn't concentrate on driving the boat and was making too may mistakes with the throttles and the wheel. I finally had to slow down to 30 mph and slog it out for over 3 hours. Horrible, horrible day.
...and then there's ANY day on Albemarle Sound....

If I am drinking Ice T, and its just me and my boating friends talking: 8-10 on the scariest night of my life.
If I have had a few beers and its my regular friends: 10-12 No moon, and the Coast Guard was afraid to come out.
If I have been drinking Hurricains, there are ay least 3 hot girls within earshot, and I can still speak: 14-16 Footers, I watched the Edmond Fitzgerald go down off my bow, I told Triton to smoke poll, and I never even shuddered of fear!!!

Lake Erie.
1980s. 1986 26 foot Wellcraft Cruiser. 8 footers. Black water. Following sea. Waves breaking inches from the top of the transom and running 4000 rpm to make progress.
A bunch of twenty something "cool dudes" found Jesus real quick.

(Anyway last years AC race was a pretty bad day.)
Gotta give the racers their "props", they go out in anything and they are not just looking to survive and get home, they are pushing it to the limit.
