Default Battery Park, Sandusky

The wife and I are thinking of staying at Battery Park Marina in Sandusky this weekend... Friday - Sunday. Taking the kids. This will be the first overnight with all the kids.
I think Battery Park is the best I could find, as far as ammeneties, pool, playground, etc.
Any better ideas?
Where's the best beach to hang out at (with the boat)?
What other great things are there to do in the area (with the kids)?

Cedar Point Marina would probably be a better choice. More for the kids and you can enjoy the shuttle service and all of the pools including the Marina and Hotel pools. Cedar Point Beach or the Sand bar in Sandusky Bay are the closest places to anchor.

Hey,
What happened to the other thing you were going to do?

I stayed at Battery Park before and liked it.

If you get close to Cedar Point you know the kids will want to go to the park but man it is nice being right there.

If you are planning to go to Cedar Point for the day or evening
you can actually dock for free at Cedar Point Marina South. Directly across from Battery Park. You walk a couple hundred feet and you are at the main gate.

You can also boat to Friday's (used to be a Shooter's).

Cedar Point is a great park, and Marina, but we already have paid reservations for Labor Day weekend. So this weekend I wanted to hang in Sandusky and the Islands and pretend Cedar Point doesn't exist. Is that possible? Maybe I should move further west?

Dennis,
If you are thinking about the South Basin at CP they now have it fenced off and is not family friendly.

SS,
One of the reasons I suggested CP was if you decide not to go into the park their is still way more to do than sitting at a regular Marina. You can grab a shuttle and go to the back of the park near Fridays where they have a nice pool and the beach. If you want a beer it's right there; If you want a ice cream its right there. They also have a nice Put-Put course and go-cart track that is available without buying a pass to the park.
Enjoy whatever you decide to do! The area has a lot to offer and I am sure your family will enjoy themselves.

Scott, thanks for the advice. That sounds like some fun things we can do on Labor Day weekend.
What about Sandusky Bay, is there anything I should know about the bay that my Chartplotter won't tell me?

South side of the Bay is fine watch out for the Sanbar it is marked and you will see it on the chart. I wish I knew what kind of marker they used (name) but it is very tall and kind of marks a channel intersection. This will get you around the sand bar it's no big deal.

Enjoy the area!
If you want take my number 419-466-3920 and if you run into a problem I may be able to help. I will be around this weekend.

I was just informed that this weekend is the Festival of the Fish in Vermilion. We are going to head out there Saturday afternoon and join in the lighted boat parade on Saturday night.
Any takers

You could also try Bay Point Marina. They have all floating docks now. Very Nice. Close to Cedar Point, Kelley's Island, Put-in-Bay. They offer guess docks. Have putt putt course and small 9 hole course. Nice beach too. Quieter then Cedar Point. You won't have to listen to that da.. train whistle.

We have been there since '87.

Tony.
