Formula 242 vs. Baja 240

How do these boats compare? (They are the same years with the same engines)
Which boat will be faster?
Which will handle rough water better?
Which one is the better all around value?

Any input on these two boats would be great. Thanks!

I would think the Baja would be a little faster, but the Formula would ride better. The Formula weighs more. If both boats are equal as far as condition and priced the same. i would say the Formula would be a better value. But you didn't give very much info on the boats to really make a good comparision.

B comes before F except if there is a "aja" present. :D

The Formula hands down brotha.

-Build Quality

-Design

-Resale

-Style

------------------------------------------------------

So the Baja may be a tad faster... :p

Both boats are in excellent condition. They both have bolster seats, 454 mags, Bravo 1s. They are equiped the same the hulls and interiors being the differnce here. Is the Formula worth the extra $5k???
About what kind of top speeds are we talking with these two boats?

I have a Formula 242LS with the 454mag, you`ll see 55gps for speed may be a tad more. I know the Formula is a very solid boat well thought out. I ran my boat on Lake Champlian last summer in some bad weather an I was very impressed on the way it handled. I know the Baja may be a little flashier with graphics and no windshield. Sit in both boats for a few minutes look around at the quality, engine compartment cuddy cabin and flooring.

Now you have make the decision, any pics of eather boat?

Godd luck

Re: Formula 242 vs. Baja 240

Baja probably a bit faster on flat water.

Formula faster on rougher water plus will ride much better.

Formula will hold it's value much better.

Formula is a higher quality built boat.

I would think you would see low 60's. I had an 85' 242 with twin small blocks and it would run about 66/67.

The Formula is worth the extra 5K.

Re: Formula 242 vs. Baja 240

The Formula is probably a longer boat as Baja typically exagerates the actual length of the boat. In real world conditions the Formula is probably faster as they handle rougher water situations better. The ride quality of the Formula will be far superior.

I have had six Bajas from 27 to 42 feet and did not know what real offshore boating was about until I checked out the competition. Baja makes a pretty boat with fantastic esthetics for the price but when you check out the structure and design of a Formula, you will see there is no comparison.

You should probably arrange a water test of the actual boat you choose to see if you will be satisfied with either boat for your use. Bear in mind, on a trailer, both look great. Remember to test boat in conditions similiar to where you intend to navigate.

Re: Formula 242 vs. Baja 240

I know two people , one has a 240 Sport /454 and the other a 242 LS/502. The Baja is almost as fast as the Formula. So with the same engines the Baja would be quicker. Ride , fit and finish and the fact it's a Formula make it worth more now and later too.

PS. the Formula with a 502 mag tops out at 62 mph with a 23 Mirage. He's looking to try a 22 Bravo since I read on here they give a higher mid range and top end on a 242

Re: Formula 242 vs. Baja 240

It is more of a matter of replacing my 240 with the Formula. I like my Baja but the Formula seems a bit nicer. I just don't know if it is worth the $5k upgrade right now.
Any ideas what the 2 boats weigh?

Formula! I agree with everyone's comments here. It's worth an extra 5k if everything else is equal.
