I'm no expert but I would say any blower motor should have an intercooler, not only is it cheap horsepower but cooling your intake charge helps with detonation among other things. Could anybody make an argument not to have an intercooler?

I do not know about 1471's but I can tell you what happened when i added chillers on my B&M 420 Mega Blowers.
1. Fred sold them to me and his service was as good as his incapacity to get that Sutphen wet... in other words.... AWESOME SERVICE.
2. Originally I ran 6# of boost and the boat ran everyday 78.5mph with taps at 80.3 when only fumes left in the tank and two on board. All this on fresh water.
3. Added the chiller the boost is down to 4.8-5# due to the larger intake area but I see 80's consistently. I have not changed my props yet but will do so soon. I also am ordering pulleys to get the boost back up to 6#. I imagine it will give me 82's day in day out with light runs close to 84. Again all in fresh water.
4. I would be carefull of flushing those systems religously if you use them in salt water from related experience to me by multiple world champion of cores rotting out in salt water enviroment. For me it is a non issue.
5. I installed them myself without any hitched and I am an idiot so they are pretty easy to put on. You'll need belts 8" longer also. All I need now is get the bling bling hose fitting and right lenght braided lines but the setup is sound currently and the boat runs like a raped ape.
My evaluation is easily 40-50hp per mills in my application once the boost will be back to the original setting.
This crap is on a 2000 42 Cigarette Tiger with 509's CR 8.1.
Hope this helps.
