Re: Top Gun 39 Unlimited or Nor-Tech or Outerlimits?
With the Yanmars, weight is an issue. Another is you only have an RPM range of 3400 to work with. You could get a higher top end but without multi speed trannies you can't get it on plane. We don't get much bow lift with the Arnesons either. Just not apples to apples.
Great reliabilty, great cruising speed, fuel economy and range but it's not going to perform with the same top end as the gas motors. |
Re: Top Gun 39 Unlimited or Nor-Tech or Outerlimits?
Hi!
Thanks for answer. When I looked at the 3900 in Kristiansand and Arendal, it was running relatively flat. And the Arnesons explain that. And the rpm issue was informative. What is the price difference between a 3900 with twin 525's and twin 500 Yanmars? We were happy to have a V 3900 and a 4300 Cat at our festival taking our intenational artists for a great ride. The V 3900 is a wondeful boat! And the dashboard was just awesome! Cheeers, Toffen G - Norway |

That being said, 3 600's is gonna be a headache. I say get a boat close to that paint w/twin 850's and go for it. I love the Nor-tech and the OL is the bomb, but a Cig. is a Cig. and will never be called by the wrong name. :D |

This thread is good reading and has great info with all the opinions of owners, sellers, and riders! I too am looking for boats in the 38+ range with Nortech topping my list for amenities, ride, speed, and bang for the buck. Like many others here I really like the 39TG and OL but feel that both boats offer slightly less in the all important (to me) creature comfort category. Having good cabin headroom and full amenities with A/C, generator, full galley and head for weekending while enjoying poker runs at 90-100 mph speeds in nearly all types of water.
I heard a rumor that NT is looking to build their own high HP (800+) NA engine that will hit a regular 100mph with #6's in a staggered configuration. That's means I could cruise at 80 and jam on it whenever needed to pull ahead of some of those small pesky cats :D. That's what I want!!!! Next buoy is MINE! :D (Those in the HRPA know what I mean...) Thanks for the info guys! Vyper340 - Dave |

It would be nice to have the added midrange punch of the 600s, but I'm still trying to justify the price difference between the 525s and 600s.
Do you know what your 39 would run top end at with 525s? |

Ron Munson is an OSO member and he can build you at least 100 more hp for the same price as either the 525 or the 600. Thats an odd warranty, looks like they over price the engine by $4k and return to you 6 months later if not used |

The amount you overpaid for your engine X-Y= $$$ the best part, he makes more money if the engines break down!!!!!! :evilb: :evilb: :evilb: :evilb: (since you can't take it anywhere else... guaranteed return business) |
