Re: Mike Poppa - 1985
There are pictures of The Velocity "Still Crazy" on the walls at the shop. I'll ask Steve Stepp on Monday if he has any more stuff about your Dad.

I worked with Dick & Mike (Still Crazy) along with Tony Roberts & Steve Curtis (Mr. Roberts) back in early 80's in North Miami Beach and I still have the original Blue Still-Crazy Jacket. A little small on me now. lol (I will find it and post a photo)
As some of you know Roberts, Curtis, Dick & Mike were teammates and worked out of the same shop in NMB. We went to most races together and drove down to Key West together for this race. Great story on why Roberts & Curtis decided to keep racing after that tragic day. After long discussions with the wives and all involved, Dick & Mike would have wanted them to continue to finish race. With great success and a lot of luck, we were able to win the 1985 Open Class Wold Championship in honor of Mr. Dick Fullam & Mike Poppa. Those were the days my friends and after all these years, I continue to think of Dick & Mike. RIP |

The early 80's seemed like an awesome time in boat racing, but unfortunately also a dangerous one as well. Wish they were still here with us to rip around in StillCrazy, but that wasn't in the cards. Really love the boat and story. I followed the thread during the restoration. Where do you typically run the boat?
