Re: Does Your Boat Keys Float ?
I voted "never tested".
Because I know for a FACT that my two 6 year-old orange Nautica freebies will float my three keys ( 2 Fountain, 1 Masterlock ) even in 6-footers with 30kt winds.
We are expecting 6-footers and 30kts later this week.
I will don my foul-weather gear, turn on my running lights, head offshore about 15 miles, and pitch 'em into the dark ( they are orange, so I will be able to see them ).
They're gonna float. I just know it.

Keys stay on the boat (of course they have to find them ). If they want it that bad thay are going to get it (not to hard to hot wire a boat). Same with the cabin if they want in they will break the door. I have seen many people have to drive over an hour each way to get the keys thay left at home. Hide them in the boat. Have fun

No keys for the Jag, just two toggles for ignition and two starter toggles. Now that is an easy boat to steal! Doug

So...how did you start it??? Mine never come out, just pull the teather and that will screw them up long enough. I also keep a set hidden on the boat, zipped tied in so they will be there for sure.

Re: Does Your Boat Keys Float ?
Haven't tested mine, but I have a friend that had a few keys and a gas cap key on a big Mastercraft float and they went straight to the bottom. He's on Lake Norris, so in the fall when the lake level dropped 40 feet, his daughter found them.
I think I'm safe because I only have 1 ignition key on the floats, with an additional small trailer lock key on one.

I hope so....and hope I never have to find out. Leave the boat in a hi-dri....key stays in the ignition unless we tie up at a bar/restaurant, then they go in the sink.
