Default Should I buy a V bottom or Cat?

I need some help, I can't decide wether to buy a 36 Spectre cat or a Donzi 38ZRC. At the moment I have a Donzi 33Z Crossbow with a pair of 830hp engines with Arneson ASD6 drives. The plan is to use the power from the 33 and put it into the new boat. But what should I go for Cat or V bottom? Please help. The boat will be used in both calm and rough sea's of the south coast of the UK.

Main issue in the US is insurance, Cat owners are getting hammered by the insurance companies.

A cat has 10 times the ride quality of a V. They also have a faster cruise, and use less fuel to do it. Insurance and the lack of cabin space are the only drawbacks.

I'd say that's a HUGE exaggeration.....I would rather be in a V bottom in rough water anyday

I think we are both right...it depends on the water. I am a V-bottom guy. Last big cat I was in was a 36 Spectre. I could not get used to the feeling of the water running through the tunnel. It was wierd. I was in the backseat.

Another thing to think about is do you use the cuddy? You may not realize how much you use the cuddy until you don't really have it anymore.

That is true. I am doing alot more lake boating now. I was/still am looking at Gladiators, but then I realized...where the hell do you put your cooler??? Maybe in the bench seat?? That could be a big drawback. I am also considering a 33' Powerplay (pleasure version) and a Y2K Superboat.

If you don't need the cabin go with the cat. The sprectre will be a ton faster and you will love the ride. Your cruise speed will be equal to what your top speed is now

My buddy has a 29 foot Renegade CC. He and another freind of mine in a 30 foot Spectre were both coming across Tampa Bay in some rough seas. The guy in the CC got across, and lost sight of the Cat behind him. He was about to go back and look for him when they came into view. Now, that's basically two boats of the same size in rough water. The V performed better.
