Default Harsh Cleaners??

There I was, adding chemicals to the pool. I picked up a bottle of Stain and Scale remover and thought what would it do to the rusty old brown stain on my transom. So I mixed an ounce into a spray bottle filled with water and away I went to spray the transom. I sprayed the entire transom, lots of overspray onto me and it didn't burn. I look at the transom still ugly brown I got a call from a neighbor that needed help with his boat, so I spent about 10 minutes with him. When I came back the transom was all white, even the watermarks on the stainless exhaust was gone.

So are the pool chemicals less harsh then using an instant hull cleaner? This stuff did not burn like the hull cleaner does so it is definitely more user friendly.

I'm sure anything from the pool store will work. This is Keetrol Plus Stain & Scale remover. It says it cures metallic stains, rust and scaling in pools. It is to correct mineral problems in pools. Toilet bowl cleaners are acid based, this stuff is not.
I am afriad of simple green since it reacts with aluminum. I like "oil eater" cuts grime in the bilge pretty well. I use simple green in the cockpit and tonight to wash the Aqua-buff off my deck.
